JAPAN HOUSE
JAPAN HOUSE, an initiative by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aims to share the profound realization of 'how little one knew about Japan' with the world. Its mission is to inspire greater global interest in Japan through this quiet, powerful impact.
Symbol of 'a crucible of emptiness'
We distilled aspects of Japanese aesthetics—precision, care, delicacy, and simplicity—into a single, horizontal form. The 'Ichi' (一) symbol serves as a vessel for expansive interpretation, embodying Japan with both refinement and simplicity.
JAPAN HOUSE São Paulo
Kengo Kuma renovated a building facing Paulista Avenue, creating a facade of Kiso hinoki and interior spaces featuring washi filtered through metal mesh. At the opening, pre-events by flower artist Makoto Azuma and live performances by Ryuichi Sakamoto and Jun Miyake attracted visitors from Japan and abroad.
