Exhibition catalog of Near and Far / Now and Then by Zeng Fanzhi

We handled the art direction for the catalog for the solo exhibition Near and Far / Now and Then by leading Chinese contemporary artist Zeng Fanzhi.

Proceeding with the photography and layout simultaneously, we worked at the exhibition venue and distinguished between amazing close-ups of the material (matière) and wide shots of entire works. The result reveals the superb teamwork achieved between the photography and direction.

The exhibition was staged at the Scuola Grande della Misericordia in Venice. With exhibition design by architect Tadao Ando, the space enjoys a wonderful resonance between the classical architecture and contemporary art.

For the custom binding version with numbered copies and Japanese-style bookbinding known as shihochitsu (clasped binding, folding out on all four sides), we achieved a distinctive finish by using special printing techniques to give a different feel according to whether an element is close up or far away.
