Awamori product development with Yaesen Shuzo

Kenya Hara has launched a project to create a new brand of awamori in conjunction with Yaesen Shuzo, an awamori distiller on Ishigaki Island. Taking advantage of Ishigaki’s subtropical climate, which is quite unlike that of the Japanese mainland, they are creating a new spirit with a distinctive character that brings the island’s natural features and culture into the production process. Awamori is traditionally known as a drink of the people, but the aim of this project is to step away from that image and take awamori into a new class.
