CHAMBER of CURIOSITIES―from the Collection of The University of Tokyo

Skeletal specimens, immersion specimens, and other scientific specimens are full of the fascination of materials that make people's senses shudder and their eyes involuntarily glued to the surface. This book is the result of a proposal by photographer Yoshihiko Ueda to photographer Yoshiaki Nishino, a professor at the University of Tokyo's Museum of Integrated Arts and Sciences, who is well versed in the beauty and fascination of these specimens, to photograph natural history specimens, and to assist in the publication of this book.
Needless to say, specimens are not data but materials. We designed this book based on the idea that if a book is to inherit the fascination of specimens, it should be a book that stands out from the crowd with its presence. The specimen is boldly special, housed in a 10mm-thick acrylic case. A number of photographs taken of the specimen are once again housed in the specimen container.
